- This standard covers the interaction of devices using Power over Ethernet (POE) technology systems of 10/100/1000 Mbps of data and 15W, 30W, 60W, and up to 100W of power over Cat5 and Cat6 Ethernet cables. The systems may consist of control units (Power sensing equipment) using Cat5e and Cat6 cabling using various components that are either active or passive such as powered devices, lighting, wiring devices, switches, VOIP Phones, Wireless access point, RFID readers proximity sensors, Cameras. The products covered by this requirement are intended to be installed in accordance with the CE Code Part I, CSA C22.1.

- Systems covered by this standard are intended to use PoE Technology protocol such as IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt standards.

Project Need
At the request of industry CSA has developed a standard that addresses the complete integrated automation of all devices involved using PoE communication. This specification can be used by building construction development (Integrated Automation system contractor) to describe how devices will connect to the Digital Building network, including what data needs to be made available and how that data is to be handled. Integrated building control services such as but not limited to, HVAC, Lighting control, Electrical metering, CCTV, Data Center, and other controller assets as per the system architecture.
