This standard is intended to support personal care provider workers and employers by providing competency requirements and guidance to perform occupational roles.

Project Need
Many different names are used to describe the personal care provider occupation across Canada. Not only are the names different throughout the country, but the scope of work, educational requirements, entry-to-practice requirements, employment settings, scope of employment, and job descriptions differ; each province and territory sets its own policies, practices, and educational requirements. There is a need for national consistency to help ensure equity for care recipients and personal care providers. A national occupational standard for personal care providers will help to outline a common taxonomy and common knowledge, skills, and abilities for personal care providers.

Note: The information provided above was obtained by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and is provided as part of a centralized, transparent notification system for new standards development. The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.

Individual SDOs are responsible for the content and accuracy of the information presented here. The text is presented in the language in which it was provided to SCC.
