Scope

The CSA Technical Committee TC420 – Solar Thermal will be developing a new edition of F379 Series-09 Packaged solar domestic hot water systems (liquid-to-liquid heat transfer) (F379.1-09 and F379.2-09) and reviewing the text of U.S. Standards ICC-SRCC OG-100 Solar Thermal Collector Certification Program and ICC-SRCC OG-300 Solar Water Heating System Certification Program, and ISO 9806:2017 and ISO 9459-4:2013 to determine if they are suitable for referencing with or without deviations. The new edition of F379 Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems (F379.1, F379.2) standard applies to the performance, durability and safety of solar thermal heating collectors and solar thermal heating packaged equipment and allows for the referencing of international standards and certification.

1 Scope

1.1
This standard applies to the performance, durability and safety of solar thermal heating collectors and solar thermal heating system equipment.

1.2
This standard specifies requirement for both factory-packaged and field assembled systems.

1.3
This standard applies to the components and materials supplied by the manufacturer, the installer, the assembly instructions and operation of the system as it has been assembled according to these instructions.  It does not apply to site preparation or installation procedures.

1.4
This standard is not intended as a design specification or as an instruction manual for untrained persons.

1.5
In CSA Standards, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and “can” is used to express possibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.

1.6
The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard. Any values given in parentheses are for information purposes only.

Project need:

Project Need
To maintain alignment with international requirements and certification. To update the current standard due to user experience/feedback/new technology (new edition). This proposed New Edition is being developed at the request of the CSA Technical Committee on Solar Thermal Energy . It will provide the industry with up to date requirements and certification related to residential and commercial solar hot water systems.
