This Standard specifies requirements for the Application of Ergonomics in offices. It applies to all office users in office workspaces in new and existing buildings, and includes some requirements for nontraditional workspaces (i.e., vehicles and home offices). Whenever “office” is used in this Standard, it refers to users in one or more of these settings.

Project Need
The new edition of Z412 is intended to be updated to reflect current industry terminology and technology advancements. Further, this new edition would aim to ensure clarity of the requirements of the Standard. Updates would also include specific considerations for organizational responsibilities, risk assessment and hazard identification. Moreover, home offices, acoustics, and communication devices will be addressed. The anticipated impact of this Standard is to provide guidance to workplaces in order to optimize the application of ergonomics in office environments for the mitigation of the risks of musculoskeletal disorders and to improve human performance.
