Scope

This International Standard provides methods for preparing training materials and administering standardized training to operators (drivers) of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).

It is applicable to MEWPs, as defined in ISO 16368, intended to move persons, tools and materials to positions where they can carry out work from the work platform.

NOTE National or other regulations, which could be more stringent, can apply.

MEWP classifications are made up of a MEWP group (platform location in reference to tipping line) with an associated MEWP type (reference to travelling).

Purpose

This Standard provides methods and guidelines to prepare MEWP training materials, define administration criteria and the elements required to deliver training, and familiarization to achieve the following objectives:

a) prevention of personal injuries and accidents; and

b) thorough and consistent training.

All provisions of this Standard apply to both new and existing MEWPs as defined in CAN/CSA-B354.1, CAN/CSA-B354.2, CAN/CSA-B354.4, and CAN/CSA-B354.6.
