Scope

This Standard provides requirements and recommendations for describing and presenting the way in which weather stations, including weather stations considered ‘one off’, collect data with respect to:

  • Site attributes (e.g. site name, location, reporting frequency, time zone, owner, purpose, maintenance schedule, physical site description, site photographs);
  • Data collection attributes (e.g. information on instruments/tools used, location, temporal properties, unit of measurement, frequency of collection, frequency of transmission, instrumentation maintenance);
  • Data reporting attributes (e.g. format, output, code, schema, formula used, processing frequency, resolution, quality control, data processing, data storage)

This Standard also provides guidance and recommendation on self-declaration management, including:

  • How and where to post the information;
  • How frequently to update the information.

This standard is applicable to meteorological components at any monitoring location.

Project need:

Project Need
The objectives of this Standard are to: • Provide a standardized approach to allow meteorological data providers to detail and ultimately self-declare on how meteorological data are collected and presented • Allow data users to understand the conditions under which collection takes place • Allow data users to understand the methodologies by which the data are processed at the station level • Support more informed decision-making about the use of data • Support the management of site metadata

Note: The information provided above was obtained by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and is provided as part of a centralized, transparent notification system for new standards development. The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.

Individual SDOs are responsible for the content and accuracy of the information presented here. The text is presented in the language in which it was provided to SCC.
