Scope:

Scope

This Standard will provide guidance on sustainable health care facility design. It will include topics such as low carbon climate resilient HCF design, and environmental sustainability strategies. It will also include but not be limited to requirements for identifying and lowering carbon emissions in health care facility planning and design through measurable outcomes, risk assessments, climate hazard exposure screens, and consideration of long-term climate parameters.

Project need:

Project Need
Many industries and organizations are increasingly concerned about climate change and are trying to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The Canadian health care system contributes to 4.6% of Canada’s total GHG emissions. Incorporating low carbon climate resiliency into health care facility design is crucial for infrastructure resiliency and adaptation to climate change and will be beneficial to all Canadians.

The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.

Individual SDOs are responsible for the content and accuracy of the information presented here. The text is presented in the language in which it was provided to SCC.
