Liquefied natural gas (LNG) – Floating near-shoreline production, storage, and handling
Scope:
The Standard will address siting, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of floating facilities for the production, storage, and handling of liquefied natural gas (LNG) when the facility is permanently tethered to a shoreside structure such as jetty, pier or wharf.
The scope includes:
a) Floating facilities used for any combination of conditioning natural gas, liquefying natural gas, storing LNG, or offloading LNG;
b) Purpose-built floating LNG facilities and repurposed liquefied natural gas carriers (LNGCs);
c) Ship-to-shore utility interconnectivity (e.g., gas supply and electrical connection); and
d) FLNG facility permanent mooring systems.
Project need:
The primary objective of the standard is to facilitate innovation in the field of LNG by providing minimum requirements for the siting, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of floating near-shoreline LNG facilities in the Canadian context.
This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of the industry and regulators. It will provide the industry with guidance for LNG facilities that are permanently tethered to a shoreside structure. This will meet the strategic needs of the following key interests:
a) ensuring that the latest innovative/technology/safety features are available for users,
b) addressing needs of regulators by providing suitable requirements.
