Scope

1.1

The requirements specified in this Standard cover light emitting diode (LED) equipment that is an integral part of a luminaire or other lighting equipment, and which operates in the visible light spectrum between 400 and

700 nm. These requirements also cover the component parts of LED equipment, including LED controlgear, controllers, arrays, modules, and packages, as defined in this Standard.

1.2

These lighting products are intended for installation on branch circuits of 600 V nominal or less, in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, and for connection to isolated (non-utility connected) power sources such as generators, batteries, fuel cells, solar cells, and the like.

1.3

The requirements specified in this Standard are intended to supplement those in other end- product standards.

Project Need
This proposed new edition is being developed at the request of the industry and certification bodies It will provide the industry with updated safety requirements that include the following: 1. Revise humidity exposure testing 2. Clarify voltage labeling requirements for constant current systems 3. Add Supplement SA – Requirements for safety-related electronic circuits 4. correct maximum ac + dc voltages for wet locations 5. Add Supplement SB – Requirements for Type HL LED drivers 6. Add Supplement SC – Requirements for Temperature Limited (Type TL) LED drivers 7. Alignment of risk of fire definition with other standards and the code. 8. Revise polymeric material requirements including requirements for secondary optics 9. Add Supplement SD – Requirements for light emitting diode packages 10. Geographical separation of Class 2 circuits and non-Class 2 circuits 11. Add construction and performance requirements for direct plug-in units
