The scope is:

The purpose of this new standard will be to provide minimum requirements, guidance and best practices for land use planning and development in the vicinity of transmission pipeline facilities and operations.   The Standard will provide information to assist users to develop processes that integrates an awareness of pipelines, their rights of way and above-ground facilities; and, urban planning reflecting public safety and pipeline integrity, when planning for land use and development activities. 

The Standard will address:

a.            Responsibilities of all stakeholders when land use planning near pipelines

b.            The desired consultation and communication process at the initiation of land use planning and development activities

c.             Education and engagement activities that promote consistent land use planning near pipelines

 

The Standard may cover some of all of the following areas/elements related to land use planning:

a.            Reconfiguration of development if possible

b.            Jurisdictional setbacks
