1.1 Inclusions

This Standard defines the minimum construction and safety requirements for hydrogen compressors. This Standard applies to newly manufactured equipment designed primarily to provide compressed hydrogen gas.

Hydrogen compressor types covered by this Standard include, but are not limited to, reciprocating compressors, integrated combustion engines and compressor packages, and hydraulic intensifier compressors.

1.2 Exclusions

This standard does not apply to:

a) Vehicle Fueling Appliances for vehicular fuel applications (CSA HGV 5.1); or

b) Compressor packages hydrogen dispensing stations (CSA HGV 4.8)

Project need:

Project Need

The development of this standard will support the safe deployment and the use of hydrogen compressors. This new standard will be a conformity assessment including the minimum safety design requirements hydrogen compressors. It will meet the strategic needs of the following key interests: a) ensuring that the latest innovative/technology/safety features are available for users, b) addressing needs of regulators by providing suitable requirements; and c) supporting certification bodies.
