Scope

This Standard will provide evidence-based guidance and requirements for the planning, design, and construction of both public and private health care facilities located in Canadian Northern and remote communities.

Project need:

Project Need
: In Canada’s north, warming due to climate change is taking place at a faster rate than the rest of Canada, and quicker than most climate models predicted. Protecting the region’s health care infrastructure is of critical importance in the face of a changing climate for northern, small, and remote communities. There is a need for recognizing the risks and realities of the north (e.g., small communities, geographic isolation, culture, climate), and the realities of remote communities across Canada that are not considered in other standards.
