Scope

This standard provides requirements for grade-level electrical in-ground boxes. The boxes and lids are made of composite, plastic or concrete (lids may also be made of metal) and intended for roadway traffic signal and lighting conductors and connections at voltages 750 V or less .These boxes are not intended to be installed where vehicular traffic normally occurs. These boxes are intended to withstand the weight duty classes specified by the manufacturer in accordance with the defined application per Table XXX. These boxes are not intended to provide a waterproof enclosure and may be subject to water ingress due to outdoor environmental conditions. Boxes shall be provided with a means to suspend conductors above the bottom of the box for ease of access to terminations. . 1.5 An in-ground box provides access to conductors with splices and through wiring and is intended to be installed in accordance with CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, Safety Standard for Electrical Installations.

This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of company/ industry, regulatory bodies, certification bodies. It will provide the industry with appropriate requirements for safe introduction of grade level electrical in-ground boxes
