GHG Emissions, Energy, and Water Efficiency Reporting for Existing Buildings
Scope:
This Standard describes the steps and components of a mandatory building energy, water and GHG emissions and carbon reporting requirement to help standardize their design and implementation, reducing burden and complexity for both authorities having jurisdiction and the property owners subject to such requirements.
Project need:
Mandatory reporting requirements for existing buildings – where reporting is compulsory for owners subject to the requirement – are on the rise in Canada as local, regional, and provincial governments seek to better understand the performance of the building stock. Such programs allow authorities having jurisdiction to identify, support or otherwise require owners to achieve reductions in their energy, water and/or GHG emissions, often in line with broader sector-wide climate targets.
