Scope

This Standard will provide nationally vetted guidance and specifications for different types of flood maps such as inundation, flood hazard, flood risk, and flood awareness and to outline the technical specifications to be considered when acquiring, managing and disseminating these maps and their associated geospatial data.

Project need:

Project Need
Flood maps in Canada are vital for identifying flood risk and preventing catastrophic damage to infrastructure, property, and homes. Assessing risk requires accurate and available data to maintain and update accessible maps across all jurisdictions in Canada. This Standard will serve as a resource for geomatics professionals and flood mapping practitioners, as well as municipal planners involved in flood protection and mitigation activities. This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). The primary target audience of the proposed NSC will be geomatics professionals and flood mapping practitioners, as well as municipal planners involved in flood protection and mitigation activities. Other users may include department managers, project coordinators, geomatics experts, water resource engineers, planners both within and outside of government, and members of Indigenous communities.
