Scope

This document will establish requirements and recommendations for the geological storage of hydrogen. The purpose of these requirements is to promote environmentally safe containment of hydrogen in a way that minimizes risks to the environment and human health. Among the topic inclusions will be managements systems, site characterization, risk management, monitoring, operation, and closure.

Project need:

Project Need
To support clean energy objectives by providing requirements and recommendations for safe and responsible geological storage of hydrogen. This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of CSA members of the CSA Z741 Geological storage of carbon dioxide technical committee and the Canadian Mirror Committee to ISO TC265 Carbon dioxide capture, transportation, and geological storage, with an interest in, or expertise in, hydrogen storage. It will provide the industry with a national standard that contains requirements and recommendations for safely and responsibly storing hydrogen geologically including managing the project, risk management, monitoring and closure, etc.
