Scope

This standard will cover requirements and recommendations for the design of new residential communities to protect against flood hazards.  Flood hazards covered in this standard include: riverine, overland, storm and sanitary sewer surcharge, drainage system failures and groundwater seepage.  It will apply to detached, semi-detached and rowhouses (including stacked and back-to back townhomes.

This standard will not cover flood hazards from coastal flooding or unique flooding hazards (e.g. dam failure) nor will it apply to high-rise residential

With increasing frequency and intensity of rainfall events, extreme flooding is on the rise resulting in significant economic and social damage therefore building resiliency in new communities during the design phase will help mitigate the impacts of flooding
