Scope:

This Standard provides requirements for the design, construction, materials and testing of escalator braking systems. This Standard covers escalator driving-machine brakes as described in ASME A17.1/CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators

Project need:

To create North American harmonized requirements that promote safe design of escalator braking systems in order to reduce the risk of injury; To provide a uniform set of requirements for manufacturers to demonstrate conformity; To facilitate adoption of uniform requirements by Canadian and US jurisdictions.
