This document gives guidance on how to establish, use and maintain energy performance indicators (EnPIs) and energy baselines (EnBs) to evaluate energy performance in any organization including those using ISO 50001. Additional guidance is given on how to measure and monitor energy performance and demonstrate energy performance improvement.
This document is applicable to any organization, regardless of its type, size, complexity, geographical location, organizational culture, the products and services it provides or its level of maturity in the field of energy management.

Project Need
To maintain alignment with international requirements (new edition of adoption). This proposed New Edition is being developed at the request of TC/MC to ISO/TC 301 on Energy management and energy savings. It will provide the industry with practical guidance related to managing energy performance, including its evaluation, control and continual improvement through the establishment, use and maintenance of energy performance indicators and the corresponding energy baselines. This will meet the strategic needs of the following key interests: This document is applicable to any organization, regardless of its type, size, complexity, geographical location, organizational culture the products and services it provides or its level of maturity in the filed of energy management. Improving energy performance helps organizations to become more competitive by reducing their energy costs. In addition, improving energy performance helps organizations to reduce their energy related GHG emissions. Climate change and the need for decarbonization and global concerns. Reducing GHG emissions associated with energy consumption is a significant tool in tackling climate change. Methods for monitoring and measuring energy performance to ensure appropriate results are key aspects of this activity.
