Scope

This Standard applies to

a) electric storage tank water heaters
i) with volumes of 76 to 454 L (20 to 120 US gal);

ii) having electric heater elements with power inputs up to 12 kW; and

iii) designed to heat and store water at a thermostatically controlled

temperature equal to or less than 82 ºC (180ºF); and

b) heat pump water heaters that have

i) a maximum current rating of 24 A;

ii) a single-phase maximum voltage of 250 V; and

iii) ancillary equipment necessary for the device to function

Project need:

Project Need
New standards enforced in 2015 in the US for residential water heaters and a test method final rule in July 2014 require revisions of the C745 in order to harmonize the C745 standard with US DOE testing procedure. The revision is needed in order to bring up-to date the testing procedure with emerging technologies like heat pump water heaters
