Scope:
Note: This notice of intent was withdrawn by the responsible SDO on October 16, 2024.
Note: As requested by the responsible SDO, this NOI being reissued as the standard was in the initial stages of development for more than 12 months. An additional comment period of October 24 to November 15, 2023 (originally published on November 29, 2022).
This new standard will provide guidance to Canadian municipalities to select and deploy appropriate emergency flood protection barriers to improve flood response and flood resilience.
Project need:
Emergency flood protection barriers can be a crucial element of the flood risk management strategy for entrenched communities where avoidance is not feasible. In order to improve flood response and flood resilience across Canada, there is a distinct need for guidance to help Canadian municipalities select and deploy appropriate emergency flood protection barriers. However, there are currently no Canadian guidelines for selecting and deploying these technologies. This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of government stakeholders. It will fill a distinct need as there are currently no Canadian guidelines for selecting and deploying these technologies. Municipalities large and small across Canada will therefore be able to use this new Standard to help mitigate flood risk and flood damages. This will meet the strategic needs of the following key interests: a) owners and operators of coastal buildings and infrastructure assets; b) regulatory authorities; c) planners, engineers, designers; d) municipalities; and e) the public
