This Standard applies to cord-connected and permanently connected electrically heated pottery kilns for use on nominal system voltages of 600 V or less, designed to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

This Standard does not apply to electrical equipment employing high-frequency currents or industrial heating equipment

The current edition of CSA C22.2 No. 221 was originally issued in 1986. This standard falls under the aging standard program which addresses the need to update standards older than 10 years
