Scope

1.1
This Standard applies to electrically operated clothes-washing and dishwashing machines including such washing machines in combination with other devices (such as combination washing and drying machines) for potentials of 600 volts or less, intended to be used in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

For convenience only, the short terms "clothes washers", "dishwashers" and "washer-dryers" are used herein.

1.2
This Standard applies to both cord-connected and permanently connected machines for use in domestic or commercial locations and includes machines provided with coin- or ticket-operated mechanisms, conventional wringer machines, tumbler, agitator and spinner machines, combination washer-dryers, extractors of the centrifugal type and dishwashing machines of the rack and conveyor type.

1.3
This Standard does not cover dry-cleaning equipment. Note: CSA Standard C22.2 No. 169, Clothes Washing Machines, replaces the requirements for clothes washing machines and centrifugal extractors published in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 53-1968, Electric Washing Machines. CSA Standard C22.2 No. 53 therefore applies to dishwashing machines only.
