Note: As requested by the responsible SDO, this NOI being reissued as the standard was in the initial stages of development for more than 12 months. An additional comment period of April 9 to April 30, 2024 (originally published on May 30, 2023).

1.1

This standard applies to semi conductor based molded-case circuit breakers and hybrid molded-case circuit breakers that are designed with or without an integral airgap for isolation. These circuit breakers are rated up to 1000 Vac and 1500 Vdc, and are designed to be installed and used in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

1.2

This standard also applies to semi conductor based molded-case switches and hybrid molded case switches rated up to 1000 Vac and 1500 Vdc.

1.3

This equipment is intended for installation in an overall enclosure or as parts of other devices such as panelboards.

1.4

These devices can be interconnected and can have the ability to be controlled/ updated remotely, as such, this standard contains functional safety and cyber security requirements addressing these issues and may be used to supplement but does not replace requirements that already exist in a published CSA component standard.

1.5

This standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CSA C22.2 No. 5, except as modified or supplemented by this Standard.

Project need:

Project Need
To support innovation in the field of Molded-case circuit breakers, molded-case switches, and circuit-breaker enclosures by providing requirements for the construction/installation/use of Solid-State Molded-case circuit breakers, molded-case switches, and circuit-breaker enclosures in the Canadian context. This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of breaker suppliers, certifications bodies, and the Canadian industries. It will provide the industry with latest requirements for digital circuit breakers and introduce Solid-State Molded-case circuit breakers, molded-case switches, and circuit-breaker enclosures in the Canadian context.
