Note: As requested by the responsible SDO, this NOI being reissued as the standard was in the initial stages of development for more than 12 months. An additional comment period of October 17 to November 7, 2023 (originally published on September 28, 2021).

The Cybersecurity for Connected & Automated Vehicles (CAV) standard includes requirements for CAVs operating or intended to operate in both on-road and off-road environments.  Cybersecurity, Data Management, and Privacy refers to the act of protecting networks, devices, and data from improper access or criminal use and the practice of ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. The standard is intended to primarily address issues related to public safety, security, and privacy.

Examples of cybersecurity to be covered under this standard include, but are not limited to, cybersecurity management system for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure owner/operators, and CAV training data (e.g., data to use in training algorithms) standard.

Project need:

Project Need
To support innovation and deployment in the field of connected and automated vehicles by providing infrastructure guidance for the installation and safe operations of CAVs and corresponding infrastructure in the North American context. This proposed standard is being developed at the request of industry and manufacturers. It will provide the industry with the technical requirements and standards of safe operation of CAVs.
