Standard provides core competency requirements for ground search and rescue (GSAR) operations for the three core roles of searcher, team leader, and SAR manager. The Standard was developed to provide a foundation for interoperability and portability of GSAR skills within Canada. This Standard will facilitate training curriculum development and professional development planning so that competence is maintained and enhanced.

Project Need
With funding support from the Search and Rescue Volunteers Association of Canada (SARVAC), the objective of this project is to develop a new edition of the Z1620-15 and Z1625-16 GSAR Standards to ensure the standards reflect the latest developments addressing required core competencies for GSAR operations in Canada and the training needs / curriculum to facilitate meeting those competency requirements. As well, the development of new editions is needed to support the establishment of SARVAC’s accreditation and certification program. SARVAC has received funding from Public Safety Canada – National Search & Rescue Secretariat for implementing the accreditation and certification program.
