The connected and automated vehicle (CAV) code specifies infrastructure requirements for CAVs operating or intended to operate in both on-road and off-road environments. The CAV code is intended to primarily address issues related to public safety, security, and privacy.
The scope of the code includes but is not limited to digital infrastructure, physical infrastructure, cybersecurity, data management, and privacy. Digital infrastructure refers to the equipment that stores and exchanges data to support intelligent transportation services. The physical infrastructure for road transportation serves the tangible needs of road traffic by providing roadways, bridges, tunnels, and junctions that facilitate safe and efficient travel using motorized vehicles of various weights and sizes. Cybersecurity, data management, and privacy refers to the act of protecting networks, devices, and data from improper access or criminal use and the practice of ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. The code also considers, interoperability, human aspects, and accessibility.
Project need:
To support innovation and deployment in the field of connected and automated vehicles by providing infrastructure requirements for the installation and safe operations of CAVs and corresponding infrastructure in the North American context. In advance of developing the CAV code, CSA Group is developing a series of guidance documents to serve as the basis for the CAV Code. These documents include Digital Infrastructure Guidelines for Connected and Automated Vehicles (EXP150.1), Physical Infrastructure Guidelines for Connected and Automated Vehicles (EXP150.2), and Cybersecurity, Data Management, and Privacy Guidelines for Connected and Automated Vehicles (EXP150.3).
