Scope

The proposed Standard will specify requirements and performance specifications for determining and evaluating competencies for emergency personnel (such as police, firefighters, and paramedics) engaged in responding to hydrogen-related emergencies. It will identify training curriculum requirements for emergency responders who may encounter hydrogen-related incidents. Additionally, it will provide guidance to curriculum developers for the design of training programs and to trainers for the delivery of the curriculum.

Project need:

Project Need

A hydrogen emergency management standard can play a vital role in supporting the safe management of hydrogen incidents and the protection of responders and the public. The outputs of this proposed new standard will add value

  • by supporting cross-Canada harmonization (interoperability and portability of skills) of leading practices in hydrogen emergency management;
  • by helping to establish minimum competency levels and training expectations for emergency personnel engaged in hydrogen-related incidents; and
  • by supporting the preparedness and responsiveness of Canadian workers and the public if a hydrogen-related emergency occurs.

The key stakeholders include but are not limited to industry, government, emergency responders, workers, and the public.
