This technical report contains guidelines regarding the safe and effective operation and maintenance on CARDIAC DEFIBRILLATORS, as defined in clause 3 below, to be performed by medical and nursing personnel. This report does not apply to automatic implantable DEFIBRILLATORS and automatic external DEFIBRILLATORS.

The application guidelines in this report deal with the safe operation and maintenance of CARDIAC DEFIBRILLATORS constructed according to the safety requirements of IEC 601-1 and 601-2-4.

Not all the existing CARDIAC DEFIBRILLATORS meet the minimum r equirements of current international standards, however, the guidelines in this report will still be helpful in utilizing these devices.
