Preparation of the third edition of CSA G30.18, Carbon steel bars for concrete reinforcement. Key scope items include:

• Billet-steel bars for concrete reinforcement

 

The scope does not include:

• Non-ferrous concrete reinforcement;

• Stainless steel concrete reinforcement; • Epoxy or PVC coated concrete reinforcement; • Galvanized reinforcing bar; • Steel for prestressed concrete tendons; • Steel for prestressed concrete railway ties; • Cold-drawn steel wire for concrete reinforcement; • Welded steel wire fabric for concrete reinforcement; • Deformed steel wire for concrete reinforcement; and • Welded deformed steel wire fabric for concrete reinforcement.

Although the standard was re-affirmed in 2014, it has not been updated since 2009. The main objective of this next edition is to perform a thorough review of the current standard, to include the addition of new higher strength grades of rebar (i.e. strength levels above 400/500 MPa), and to extend the methods of rebar production.
