Scope

The standard provides guidance for small to medium-sized manufacturers to understand how and where to 
commence digital adoption/transformation by assessing and optimizing their business processes. It assists 
manufacturers in streamlining operations and enhancing productivity through effective process management, 
thus avoiding the digitization of ineffective and inefficient workflows. This guidance encompasses strategic 
road mapping, value stream analysis, KPI identification, waste reduction, data-driven insights, standardization, 
change management, and continuous improvement. 

This standard is intended for manufacturers seeking to assess and optimize business processes before digital 
adoption/transformation. It is applicable to small and medium-sized enterprises across all manufacturing 
sectors.

Project Need
To support Canadian manufacturers in enhancing operational efficiency and productivity by providing guidelines for optimizing business processes before digital adoption. This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of Canadian stakeholders. It will provide the industry with tools and frameworks to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement in their current workflows. It helps organizations to evaluate where to start digital adoption in their operational processes.
