Scope

This Standard covers black crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) pipe and fittings for use in gas gathering, gas transmission, and gas distribution applications containing not more than 1% aromatic hydrocarbons. PEX pipes are pressure rated using either the ASTM HDB (hydrostatic design basis) method based on ASTM D2837, or the ISO MRS (minimum required strength) method based on ISO 9080 and ISO 12162.  This Standard describes PEX pipes that are used in a wide range of operating temperatures from -50ºC to 110ºC, in a variety of pipe sizes ranging from NPS 3 to NPS 54 for Nominal Pipe Sizes (NPS) sizes or DN 16 to DN 1000 for metric diameter nominal (DN) sizes, and pipes that are joined by the electrofusion process or mechanical fittings, but not by butt fusion.
