Scope

Note: The scope for this NOI (originally published on January 4, 2023) was updated by the responsible SDO on September 12, 2023.

This Standard is intended for wastewater treatment (WWT) facilities with the following characteristics:

a) Continuous systems operating with primary, secondary, and disinfection treatment stages,
b) Average daily wastewater flows > 2.3 million liters per day (MLD),
c) Average influent biological oxygen demand (BOD) between 30 and 1000 mg/l,
d) Average effluent BOD level > 0 mg/l

This Standard is not intended to be used for the following:

a) Upstream sewer collection network and downstream effluent discharge pumping system.
Note: Use CSA C504 for BEF pumping system assessment. Design of the effluent discharge system should minimize energy requirements in consideration of effluent quality and the receiving environment.
b) Potable water treatment and clean water distribution utilities.

Project need:

Project Need
The project need is to support innovation in the field of benchmarking wastewater treatment facilities by providing requirements for the measurement and reporting of the power consumption and energy efficiency performance of wastewater treatment facilities. This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of the C402 technical committee on industrial energy efficiency. It will provide the industry with an improved benchmarking process for determining the efficiency performance for wastewater treatment facilities

Note: The information provided above was obtained by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and is provided as part of a centralized, transparent notification system for new standards development. The system allows SCC-accredited Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of the public, to be informed of new work in Canadian standards development, and allows SCC-accredited SDOs to identify and resolve potential duplication of standards and effort.

Individual SDOs are responsible for the content and accuracy of the information presented here. The text is presented in the language in which it was provided to SCC.
