Note: The scope for this NOI (originally published on July 26, 2022) was updated by the responsible SDO on September 12, 2023.

1.1 Inclusions

This Standard is intended for industrial air handling systems with the following characteristics:

  1. System with energy consumption greater than 500,000 kWh per year,
  2. System with air flow greater than 9.4 m3/s (20,000 cfm)
  3. Air movement systems with a maximum energy output limit of 25 kJ/kg of air which is equivalent to a maximum pressure ratio of 1.3,
  4. Flow velocity of <= 100 m/s (or <= 20,000 fpm) which characterizes the flow as incompressible,
  5. Any single parallel or series configured for air supply, air collection, exhaust, induced draft or forced draft applications .
  6. Dilute phase conveying, with air-to-solid loading ratio ≥ 2.0 by weight,

1.2 Exclusions

This Standard is not intended to be used for air movement systems with the following characteristics:

  1. Systems without partition, i.e., ceiling fans, crossflow fans and air curtain units.
  2. Systems with partition and free inlet and outlet, i.e., sidewall fans.
  3. Multi-room building ventilation systems,
  4.  Systems which have a pressure ratio greater than 1.3,
  5. Dense phase conveying with air-to-solid loading ratio < 2.0 by weigh
  6. Applications with air temperature greater than 250 ᵒC.

Project need:

Project Need
Project need is to support innovation in the field of benchmarking industrial and commercial fan systems by providing requirements for the measurement and reporting of the power consumption and energy efficiency performance of industrial and commercial fan systems. This proposed New Standard is being developed at the request of the C402 technical committee on industrial energy efficiency. It will provide the industry with an improved benchmarking process for determining the efficiency performance for industrial and commercial fan system
