Asphalt Core Boards
Scope:
This standard covers asphalt core boards intended for use as overlay protection of roof insulation below the membrane system and/or separation of roofing assemblies above combustible decks.
Asphalt core boards are manufactured with various mat reinforcements that support and reinforce mineral stabilized air blown or modified asphalts to form a multi-ply, semi-rigid asphaltic board. Boards are manufactured with mat, sanded and/or polypropylene film surfaces. Mat and sanded surfaces are designed for use with cold adhesive applied, self-adhered, hot asphalt adhered and torch applied membranes or felts in built-up roofing systems. Boards manufactured with polypropylene film surfaces are specifically designed for use with torch applied modified bituminous membranes.
This standard does not address asphalt based protection boards for waterproofing systems; for information on these products, refer to ASTM Standard Specification D6506.
