Note: CIO Strategy Council announced an organizational name change to the Digital Governance Council (DGC), effective January 30, 2023 and the creation of a new standards development division, Digital Governance Standards Institute (DGSI). The proposed Standard aims to define terms and definitions for digital governance and technologies in both English and French to ensure definitions are aligned in both languages. This standard applies to all sectors, including public and private companies, government entities, and not-for-profit organizations.

Project Need
The need to develop and use a common ontology in the new domain of digital governance and technologies has been identified many years ago. In 2019, the IEC published a white paper regarding the need to create a new ontology to foster the interoperability of digital transformation technologies. IEEE has published a lexicon of terms used in artificial intelligence, also in 2019. The IEEE committee accountable for the lexicon consulted presidents of relevant technical committees to create a document that reflects different approaches to define important terms. There is no published international standard covering digital governance and technologies, nor are there any English-French lexicons covering this domain.
