Scope:

Scope

This method determines the breaking strength of skeins of yarn.

The method is primarily for quality control and acceptance testing of spun yarns. A skein provides a large enough specimen to average out some of the variation inherent in spun yarns, thus providing a useful index that combines the effects of uneveness and single-strand strength.

This method is frequently combined with the determination of yarn linear density, thus making use of the same skeins of yarn for both tests.
