Textile test methods — Breaking strength of fabrics — Grab method — Constant-time-to-break principle
Scope:
This method determines the breaking strength by the grab method. It is not generally recommended for testing knitted fabrics and may have to be modified for woven fabrics containing high-stretch yarns.
The procedures is applicable to fabrics either in the conditioned state or when wet. It is not recommended for determining change in breaking strength due to wetting, because of possible dimensional changes in the fabric.
The procedure may be used with constant-rate-of-extension (CRE) type (e.g., strain gauge) or constant-rate-of traverse (CRT) type (e.g., pendulum) tensile testing machine.
