Scope

This method specifies two procedures for the determination of the length of yarns and threads in package form subject to the limitations as to stretchiness, linear density of the yarn being measured and the length of the yarn in the package. This method is applicable to yarns that stretch less than 5% when tension on the yarn is increased from 2.5 to 7.5 mN/tex. By mutual agreement it may be adapted to yarns which stretch more than 5% by the use of a lower reeling tension than that specified in the method. Of the two procedures specified in this method, the Wrap Reel procedure is preferable for: a) packages of yarn whose lengths are less than 400 m; and b) yarns of any length with a linear density between 200 and 2000 tex.  The Long Length Measuring Machine is applicable to packages of yarn containing more than 400 m of yarn finer than 200 tex.
