Scope

1.1 This standard applies to sealed insulating glass (IG) units used in windows, doors and curtain walls in building envelopes. It includes requirements for the testing of samples for the integrity and durability of the unit's hermetic seal and if applicable, gas concentration.

 

1.2 The requirements contained herein are applicable to glass units consisting of two or three sheets of glass and glazed in recessed openings so that the edge seals are shielded from direct weathering. The requirements also apply to glass units that may be coated, have muntin bars within the cavities and contain air or argon gas within the cavities.

 

1.3 The testing of permanently vented or capillary tube units are not included in this standard.
