Scope

This standard establishes flammability performance requirements for patient apparel, mattresses, bed linen, window drapes, cubicle curtains and carpets that are designed for general use in hospitals.

lt is the responsibility of the authority applying this standard to specify more stringent requirements for the above products when they are intended for use in high risk areas.

Carpets for hospitals are regulated by the Hazardous Products Act and by various Provincial and municipal building codes based on the National Building Code of Canada. lt is the responsibility of the hospital to consult with the appropriate legislative authority to ensure that carpets meeting the requirements of this standard (based on the National Building Code) also meet the flammability requirements of the applicable

provincial or municipal code.

This notification is for the current edition of the standard dated 1980. This does not affect the concurrent development of the new edition of the standard previously announced on 2012-12-06.
