This National Standard of Canada applies to Type B, Bxx diesel fuel containing from 6% to 20% by volume of biodiesel. Fuel meeting this standard is intended for use in high-speed diesel powered equipment for on-road and off-road applications and in select equipment powered by medium-speed diesel engines1,2.

Fuel meeting this standard is intended for use in diesel engine-powered equipment that is approved by manufacturers, or suitably converted, to be compatible with fuel blends conforming to this standard.

Fuel meeting this standard may be used for underground mining applications that were formerly covered by CAN/CGSB-3.16 (See footnote a and Annex C for notes related to flash point).

See Annex B for regulations that apply to diesel fuels.

The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.

Units of measurement – Quantities and dimensions in this standard are provided in metric units from the International System of Units (SI units). This standard expresses the industry standard nominal units of measurement in North America of “% by mass” and “% by volume”. The SI equivalent expressions for these units are % (m/m) and % (V/V) respectively.

1 Users of this standard can obtain additional information on the use of Fatty Acid Alkyl Esters (FAAE) and the use of biodiesel fuel blends from the Fuel Injection Equipment (FIE) Manufacturers and from the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) at www.truckandenginemanufacturers.org
