This National Standard of Canada applies to two types of diesel fuel, Type A and Type B for which the biodiesel content can be up to 5% by volume. Both are suitable for use in high-speed diesel engine powered equipment for on-road and off-road applications and in select equipment powered by medium speed diesel engines.

The diesel fuel may contain up to 5% by volume biodiesel.

Type A is intended for use in selected applications such as urban buses and underground mining or when ambient temperatures require better low-temperature properties than Type B.

Fuel meeting this standard may be used for underground mining applications that were formerly covered by CAN/CGSB-3.16 (see table footnote a and Annex C for notes related to flash point).

See Annex B for regulations that apply to diesel fuels.

The testing and evaluation of a product against this standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.

Units of measurement – Quantities and dimensions used in this standard are provided in units from the International System of Units (SI units). This standard expresses the industry standard nominal units of measurement in North America of “% by mass” and “% by volume”. The SI equivalent expressions for these units are % (m/m) and % (V/V) respectively.
