Scope:

This National Standard of Canada describes a product specification in compliance to ISO 19131:2007 – Geographic information – Data product specification for the provision of fundamental geographic information to the public through the GeoBase initiative of the CCOG.

 

This product specification describes the Canadian Geographical Names (CGN) Level 1 data product that provides the currently approved geographical names in Canada, but not the previously approved names1 which are available elsewhere. The CGNS Level 1 also provides the core attributes of the Canadian Geographical Names Data Base (CGNDB). The CGNDB is the official set of all geographic names ever approved by the Geographical Names Board of Canada2. Hence the CGN Level 1 dataset is a subset of the CGNDB
