Scope

This standard specifies the characteristics and test methods relating to unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) [PVC-U] pipe having a nominal diameter ranging from 100 mm to 1500 mm.

This standard applies to socket-ended pipe with gasket seals made of elastomer, with or without a restraint system integrated to the pipe, and applies to pipe without socket.

These pipes are intended for use in drinking-water systems and designed for pressurized water supply and distribution. These pipes may also be used in sewage backsiphonage systems.

This standard also applies to poly(vinyl chloride) fittings, injection-moulded or made from pipe cuttings, and to poly(vinyl chloride) machined coupling fittings, used for assembling the pipes covered in this standard.

NOTE — In this standard, the term "fabricated fitting" is used for fittings made from pipe cuttings.

This standard does not address the assembly by butt fusion of pipe without socket on a worksite.

This standard does not address molecularly oriented poly(vinyl chloride) [PVCO] pipe.
