PURPOSE This standard aims to specify the requirements related to the design and manufacture of temporary canvas winter shelters for motor vehicles in order to ensure their fitness for purpose. This standard is particularly concerned with ensuring the safety of people and property by preventing the collapse or dislodgement of shelters. It takes into account snow and wind loads particular to the province of Quebec. This standard was developed to serve as a reference document for conformity evaluation activities of specific products. SCOPE This standard applies exclusively to car shelters with predetermined dimensions and to custom-made car shelters whose clearance height does not exceed 3.05 m [10 ft]. The standard applies to single car shelters and double car shelters. The standard applies to standalone car shelters and lean-to car shelters exempted from meeting the provisions of the Quebec Construction Code, Chapter I, “Building”, and National Building Code of Canada 2005 (amended).
