Purpose
This document is divided into two parts. It deals with the problems associated with ochre deposits that can form in the drainage system of buildings and cause it to malfunction or fail.

Part I of this document specifies the elements to be taken into consideration when assessing the risk of ochre deposits forming, the visual assessment and history of the site, the soil investigation, the laboratory water analyses and the requirements for the content of the expert report.

Scope

Part I of this document applies to the assessment of the risk of ochre deposits forming in the drainage systems of new buildings and to the diagnosis of existing buildings.
    NOTE - Sites likely to present a risk of drainage system clogging are characterized by a typical soil profile and often include one or more of the following features: old woodland, soil composed of organic matter, ferrous soil, water-saturated soil, permanent or perched water table.
Part I of this document can be applied to the assessment of the risk of ochre deposits forming in the following contexts:
- during a real estate transaction;
- when a new building is erected on a vacant lot;
- when the construction of several buildings is planned on a new street;
- when several streets are to be built in a new residential development;
- in the case of an existing building with a malfunctioning drainage system linked to ochre deposits.
