Installation Code for Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping
Scope:
Purpose
This standard specifies the requirements to be met by products and materials in contact with drinking water in order to preserve its quality, and provides methods for assessing products and materials in contact with drinking water. This standard takes into account the effects that products and materials in contact with drinking water may have on health and on the aesthetic quality of drinking water.
Scope
This standard applies to all types of materials (e.g. plastics, other polymers, metals, cement) and products (e.g. pipes, gaskets, valves, coatings, lubricants) in contact with drinking water in a temporary or permanent cold drinking water distribution system.
NOTES -
1 Fire hydrants fall within the scope of this standard, as they are important components of a temporary drinking water distribution system. BNQ Standard Specification 1809 300 (see Appendix B) sets out requirements for temporary drinking water systems.
2 Although the requirements of this standard apply exclusively to drinking water distribution systems, it is recommended that they also apply to products and materials upstream of the drinking water distribution system, such as pipes, fittings, treatment equipment and reservoirs of a drinking water production unit.
This document has been drawn up for use as a reference document in conformity assessment activities for the products concerned.
NOTE - Conformity assessment is defined as the systematic examination of the degree to which a product meets specified requirements.
