PURPOSE. --- General technical specifications that govern the construction of municipal drinking water lines and sewer lines.

SCOPE. --- This standardized specification applies to structures with an invert depth that is at most  7 m (the design engineer shall validate the design of all structures with depths of up to 7 m) and specifically concerns:

a)  the excavation and backfilling of trenches;

b)  the supply, transport, handling and installation of drinking water and sewer lines;

c)  the supply, transport, handling and installation of all materials and parts required to construct sewer manholes, catch basins, valves, fire hydrants, gate houses, drinking water service laterals and sewer service laterals;

d)  all required connections, including connections to existing lines;

e)  all accessories required for the proper execution of work as outlined in the contract documents;

f)  all tests that are required in this standardized specification;

g)  the installation of drinking water and sewer lines and accessories starting from 1 m away from the outer face of any building wall;

h)  the installation of a temporary drinking water supply system for service lines affected by work, as well as the requirements related to maintaining fire protection when such a protection is specified in the manual of particular technical specifications.

For any invert depth beyond 7 m, the design engineer shall outline the precise requirements in the manual of particular technical specifications. The design engineer shall consider the physical characteristics and limitations of materials when designing these particular structures, notably because not all materials have the same service life under different conditions of use.

This standardized specification also applies to all work required to implement any structure described in the plans of drinking water and sewer lines appended to contract documents, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CULVERTS.
