Scope

The purpose of this code is to establish the installation requirements for hydrogen generating equip-ment, hydrogen utilization equipment, hydrogen dispensing equipment, hydrogen storage contain-ers, hydrogen piping systems and their related accessories.

It applies to all gaseous and liquid hydrogen applications except the following:

  • The use of hydrogen in petroleum refineries and chemical plants as feedstock and directly in-process production;
  • Industrial hydrogen installations that produce and/or use on a continuous basis mass flow rates that are in excess of 21 kg/h;

                        NOTES —

  1. The limiting size applies to a continuous production and use of hydrogen, but not to the fill-ing/transfer peak rate.
  2. A cubic metre of hydrogen at 20 °C and 101,325 kPa equals to 0,083 8 kg of hydrogen (example: 21 kg/h is equivalent to 250 m3/h at 20 °C and 101,325 kPa).
  • Industrial installations that produce hydrogen as a by-product;
  • Hydrogen installations that produce liquid hydrogen;
  • Hydrogen installations onboard vehicles, boats, airplanes and space vehicles;
  • Micro fuel cell systems for electronic equipment;
  • Hydrogen transportation including the hydrogen utility pipeline distribution and transmission pipelines;
  • Hydrogen marine and pipeline terminals.
